Bengaluru FC delivered a stunning 5-0 victory over Mumbai City FC in the ISL 2024-25 playoffs, marking the largest win in the competition’s history. The dominant performance secured their place in the semi-finals, where they will face FC Goa.
The Blues opened the scoring early with Suresh Singh Wangjam’s goal in the 9th minute. Edgar Mendez added a second just before halftime with a coolly taken penalty (42′). Ryan Williams extended the lead with a clinical finish in the 62nd minute, followed by a long-range wonder strike from Sunil Chhetri (76′). The final nail in the coffin came from Jorge Pereyra Diaz, who scored in the 83rd minute to complete a comprehensive 5-0 win.
Bengaluru FC were ruthless, converting five out of their six shots on target, while Mumbai City FC failed to capitalize on their opportunities, with Nathan Rodrigues missing a header off a corner in the 22nd minute. Despite a late push, the Islanders’ defensive lapses allowed Bengaluru to dominate the match.
The Blues will now face FC Goa in the semi-finals with matches scheduled for April 2 and April 6, as Mumbai City FC’s hopes of a playoff run were dashed by this historic defeat.
