As the Indian Premier League 2026 concluded with the Royal Challengers Bengaluru lifting the trophy after defeating Gujarat Titans, food delivery trends revealed how fans celebrated the cricketing extravaganza.

According to Swiggy’s IPL 2026 Food Ordering and Dining Insights, food orders during the tournament increased by more than 32 per cent compared to the previous season, highlighting the strong connection between cricket and food in India.

Biryani remains India’s favourite

Chicken Biryani emerged as the most-ordered main course during the tournament, followed by Chicken Fried Rice and Veg Burgers.

Among snacks, Pav Bhaji and Chicken Popcorn were fan favourites, especially during the high-pressure playoff and final matches.

Desserts also saw huge demand, with Choco Lava Cake, Tender Coconut Ice Cream and Ras Malai emerging as the most-ordered sweet treats during the tournament’s final stages.

Match nights trigger food frenzy

Swiggy reported significant spikes in food orders during key matches. On May 31, during the IPL final, the platform recorded an average of 1,300 orders per minute, with a peak of more than 6,200 orders at 7:56 pm.

Metro cities including Bengaluru, Mumbai and Hyderabad led food ordering activity. However, strong demand was also recorded in cities such as Surat, Vadodara and Thiruvananthapuram.

Dining out also sees major surge

The cricket fever extended beyond home deliveries. Swiggy Dineout bookings reportedly increased by 41 per cent compared to IPL 2025.

Bengaluru, Delhi, Hyderabad, Mumbai and Pune registered the highest number of restaurant reservations, while Tier-II cities such as Ahmedabad, Jaipur, Chandigarh and Lucknow also witnessed strong dining activity.

One of the biggest celebrations reportedly took place in Bengaluru, where a group of 20 diners generated a restaurant bill exceeding ₹2.14 lakh while watching an IPL match.

The figures underline how IPL continues to unite Indians not only through cricket but also through shared food experiences, whether at home, restaurants or community watch parties
