Football fans were taken by surprise when a recent White House photo revealed the Club World Cup trophy prominently displayed in the Oval Office—just weeks after Chelsea’s win over PSG in New Jersey.
The unexpected placement sparked curiosity online, with many asking why a piece of Chelsea’s silverware is sitting in one of the world’s most powerful rooms. US President Donald Trump clarified the situation, saying he was told he could keep the trophy as a gesture of appreciation for the United States successfully hosting the tournament.
“I asked when they’d collect it. They said, ‘We’re not—keep it, we’re making a new one,’” Trump explained in a DAZN interview. That replica now stands in the Oval Office.
However, FIFA corrected the record: three versions of the Club World Cup trophy exist. The original is housed at FIFA headquarters in Zurich. Chelsea owns a replica, which they showcased during a pre-season match against AC Milan. The third, gifted to Trump, honors the US’s role as 2025 tournament hosts.
The 2025 Club World Cup, spanning 11 US cities, was hailed as a global success by organizers, but it wasn’t without flaws—such as sparse crowds and concerns over weather and pitch quality.
In a memorable moment, Trump joined Chelsea’s players during the trophy ceremony, lingering onstage even after FIFA President Gianni Infantino asked him to step aside. The US, Mexico, and Canada are also set to co-host the 2026 Men’s World Cup.
