Amid this prevailing sadness, a post has gained viral attention on social media involving a prominent Muslim cleric and social media personality. In this incident, a Pakistani user on a micro-blogging platform posted an image of the Pakistan cricket team on the field, accompanied by the question, “Can we support them?” The user directed this inquiry to Sheikh Assim Al-Hakeem, a Saudi Arabian Islamic preacher. Sheikh Assim Al-Hakeem humorously replied with, “I don’t know them!” This response quickly spread across social media, evoking a mix of laughter and despondency among Pakistani fans.
One fan remarked, “I wish I could say the same. ” Another humorously added, “Sheikh, thank God you don’t know them; you are at peace.” A third fan concurred, saying, “I wish I could say the same.”
This incident occurred shortly after South Africa defeated Pakistan in the 26th match of the ODI World Cup, leading to Babar Azam expressing his disappointment with the team’s performance.
“We were very close, but we did not finish well. It’s very disappointing for the whole team. We fought back very well. In the batting department, we were 10-15 runs short. The fast bowlers and spinners fought well, but unfortunately, it was not to be. It’s part of the game; in the DRS, it’s part of the game. If he had given it out, it would have favored us. We have an opportunity to win this and stay in the race, but it wasn’t meant to be. We will try our best in the next three matches and put forth our efforts to play for Pakistan.
