Kochi: Delhi Capitals have finalised a 17-player squad for the Women’s Premier League (WPL) 2027 season after making four signings at the auction held in Kochi on October 28. The franchise strengthened its batting and bowling options by acquiring Indian batter Kiran Navgire, Uma Kashvi, Nazma Khan and Scotland spinner Kirstie Gordon.
Delhi Capitals entered the auction with ₹1.10 crore remaining in their purse and five slots to fill. They spent ₹1.05 crore on the four new players, leaving ₹5 lakh unused. Their squad combines an experienced international contingent with promising Indian players as the team prepares for another WPL campaign.
Kiran Navgire leads Delhi Capitals’ auction signings
Kiran Navgire was Delhi Capitals’ most expensive acquisition, joining the franchise for ₹75 lakh. Known for her aggressive batting, she offers another option to strengthen the team’s middle order and attacking approach.
The franchise also signed three players for ₹10 lakh each: Uma Kashvi, Nazma Khan and Scotland’s Kirstie Gordon. Gordon’s arrival adds an overseas spin-bowling option, while the Indian recruits provide additional depth to the squad.
Delhi Capitals’ four auction signings are:
- Kiran Navgire — ₹75 lakh
- Uma Kashvi — ₹10 lakh
- Nazma Khan — ₹10 lakh
- Kirstie Gordon — ₹10 lakh
The purchases reflect the team’s limited budget and available squad places. Delhi had five slots to fill before the auction, including one overseas slot. The franchise used four of those places and retained some flexibility in its final squad composition.
Delhi Capitals full squad for WPL 2027
Delhi Capitals retained 13 players ahead of the auction, keeping a core that includes captain Jemimah Rodrigues, opener Shafali Verma and experienced overseas all-rounders Marizanne Kapp and Annabel Sutherland. The team also retained South African batter Laura Wolvaardt and West Indies all-rounder Chinelle Henry.
The complete squad is:
Retained players
- Jemimah Rodrigues
- Shafali Verma
- Deeya Yadav
- Niki Prasad
- Minnu Mani
- N. Sree Charani
- Mamatha Madiwala
- Nandini Sharma
- Laura Wolvaardt
- Annabel Sutherland
- Chinelle Henry
- Lucy Hamilton
- Marizanne Kapp
Players acquired at the auction
- Kiran Navgire
- Uma Kashvi
- Nazma Khan
- Kirstie Gordon
The squad includes Indian batting options, spin-bowling resources and overseas players who bring international experience. Jemimah Rodrigues and Shafali Verma will be important to the batting line-up, while Kapp and Sutherland provide all-round capabilities. Wolvaardt adds further top-order batting experience.
A familiar core remains in place
Delhi Capitals have consistently reached the WPL final but are yet to win the title. Their decision to retain 13 players suggests an emphasis on continuity rather than a major squad overhaul ahead of the 2027 season.
The retained group includes established international performers as well as younger Indian players who can compete for places in the playing XI. Niki Prasad, Deeya Yadav, Minnu Mani and Nandini Sharma remain part of the domestic contingent, while Australian youngster Lucy Hamilton continues in the overseas group.
The new signings give the coaching staff additional choices. Navgire’s attacking batting could be useful in situations requiring a higher scoring rate, while Gordon provides another spin option. Uma Kashvi and Nazma Khan add depth, although their eventual roles will depend on team requirements and performances during preparation.
Purse and squad balance
Delhi Capitals spent ₹13.90 crore on their retained players and another ₹1.05 crore at the auction, taking their reported total expenditure to ₹14.95 crore. They finished with ₹5 lakh remaining from the ₹15-crore squad purse.
The franchise did not use all five available slots, ending the auction with 17 players. Its squad includes a mix of Indian and overseas talent, with international experience across batting, pace bowling, spin and all-rounder roles.
The challenge now will be to turn that combination into a balanced playing XI and ensure the new arrivals settle into the team. Selection decisions, player form and the ability to deliver consistently under pressure will shape Delhi Capitals’ campaign.
With Rodrigues, Verma, Kapp, Sutherland and Wolvaardt retained, Delhi Capitals will hope to build on their established core and make another push for the WPL title in 2027.
