Amid a star-studded lineup at the Trailblazers Conclave, it was a deeply human and inspiring session featuring renowned sports surgeon Dr Dinshaw Pardiwala that left a lasting impact on attendees.
A story beyond sport
While the conclave featured celebrated names like Gautam Gambhir, Ravichandran Ashwin, Mithali Raj and Neeraj Chopra, it was the opening session with Dr Pardiwala, Rahul Bose, Adille Sumariwalla, and DB Sundara Ramam that stood out.
The discussion turned emotional when Dr Pardiwala spoke about cricketer Rishabh Pant’s recovery following his near-fatal accident. When asked about Pant’s return to cricket, the doctor revealed that the first concern was far more basic.
“The first thought was not whether he could play again, but whether he could walk again,” he said.
A mother’s question, a doctor’s promise
Dr Pardiwala recalled a poignant moment when Pant’s mother asked if her son would be able to walk during his wedding rituals. He reassured her with confidence, promising not only recovery but also a return to cricket.
What followed was a moment of determination from Pant himself. “As soon as I said that, he stood up and asked when he could get back to the field,” the doctor shared.
Stories of resilience and recovery
Pant’s case, the doctor explained, was not an exception. He spoke about treating elite athletes like Mirabai Chanu and Vinesh Phogat, highlighting the immense physical and emotional challenges they overcame.
These were not mere anecdotes but real journeys of resilience, where medical expertise met human spirit.
A session that truly stood out
In a conclave filled with sporting legends, it was this candid and emotional exchange that resonated the most. The session offered a rare glimpse into the unseen side of sports — recovery, hope, and the unwavering belief that drives comebacks.
Dr Pardiwala’s insights reminded the audience that behind every sporting triumph lies a story of struggle, support, and silent heroes who make it possible.
