Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) CEO Venky Mysore expressed heartfelt gratitude to Gautam Gambhir as he departed to become the head coach of the Indian Cricket Team, succeeding Rahul Dravid. Gambhir, who rejoined KKR last year, led the franchise to its third IPL title in 2024 by defeating Sunrisers Hyderabad in the final at Chepauk Stadium on May 26.

Gambhir’s tenure with KKR is legendary, beginning in 2011 when he took over the captaincy from Sourav Ganguly. Despite his Delhi roots, Gambhir embraced KKR’s spirit, embodying the motto “korbo, lorbo, jeetbo.” Under his leadership from 2011 to 2017, KKR won their first IPL titles in 2012 and 2014, qualified for the playoffs five times, and reached the Champions League T20 final in 2014.

Gambhir’s return to KKR last year revitalized the team, culminating in their 2024 IPL victory. Venky Mysore praised Gambhir’s contributions, stating, “Very proud of you, @GautamGambhir. No doubt you will make India proud.”

As Gambhir transitions to his new role, he commended Rahul Dravid and his team for their stellar work. Eager to continue his cricketing passion, Gambhir looks forward to collaborating with the BCCI, NCA head VVS Laxman, support staff, and Indian players to achieve success in upcoming tournaments. Reflecting on his journey, Gambhir stated, “I have always taken pride in donning the Indian jersey during my playing days, and it is going to be no different when I take up this new role.”
