Australian all-rounder Glenn Maxwell is poised to make a return to international cricket after recovering from a wrist fracture, joining the squad for the T20 series against India. Alongside Maxwell, young Western Australian fast bowler Mahli Beardman has received a surprise call-up, potentially marking his international debut.
Team changes ahead of T20 and Ashes
The Australian team management has implemented several changes as they prepare for both the ongoing T20 series against India and the upcoming Ashes series against England, starting November 21. Senior players Marnus Labuschagne, Josh Hazlewood, and Sean Abbott have been directed to participate in Sheffield Shield matches to sharpen their red-ball cricket skills ahead of the Test series.
Maxwell’s injury occurred during a net bowling session prior to Australia’s T20 series in New Zealand in September. After a period of rehabilitation, he is now ready to feature in the final three matches of the T20I series against India.
T20 squad additions and rotations
Significant rotation has been implemented in the Australian squad to balance recovery and match preparation. Key additions to the T20 squad include Glenn Maxwell, Ben Dwarshuis, Josh Philippe, and Mahli Beardman. Meanwhile, Josh Hazlewood and Sean Abbott are scheduled to leave the squad after completing their respective matches to participate in domestic preparation.
For the ODI squad, Jack Edwards and Matt Kuhnemann have been added ahead of the final ODI, while Marnus Labuschagne exits the team to continue his Test preparations.
Preparing for the Ashes
The team management is ensuring that players are match-ready across formats. By integrating fresh talent like Beardman and rotating senior players between international and domestic cricket, Australia aims to maintain a competitive edge in both the T20 series against India and the forthcoming Ashes series.
