Madakasira: A historic wave of pride swept through Madakasira in Sri Sathya Sai District as thousands of citizens poured into the streets for a grand rally and felicitation ceremony dedicated to Kumari Deepika T C, captain of India’s victorious Women’s Blind T20 World Cup team.

The programme opened with an inspiring address by Dr. Mahantesh G. Kivadasannavar, Chairman of the Cricket Association for the Blind in India (CABI) and Former President of World Blind Cricket Ltd. Overwhelmed by the massive public turnout, he remarked:

“What we witness today was once just a dream—that blind cricket would be celebrated with such respect and enthusiasm. Deepika has not only won a World Cup; she has won the hearts of India.”

Dr. Mahantesh lauded Deepika’s exceptional leadership and reaffirmed CABI’s commitment to strengthening support systems for visually impaired athletes, emphasising the ongoing mission to empower, professionalise, and globalise blind cricket.

The celebratory rally concluded at the Government Junior College Grounds, where ministers, administrators, public representatives, students, and thousands of enthusiastic citizens gathered to honour Deepika for bringing international fame to India, Andhra Pradesh, and Madakasira.

In a historic declaration, Sri A. Shyam Prasad, IAS, District Collector, announced that the Madakasira Indoor Stadium will be renamed in honour of Kumari Deepika, ensuring her legacy continues to inspire future generations.
