Kochi: Gujarat Giants have completed their squad for the Women’s Premier League (WPL) 2027 season, signing three players at the auction held in Kochi on October 28. The franchise acquired young Indian wicketkeeper-batter G Kamalini for ₹40 lakh, Irish all-rounder Orla Prendergast for ₹30 lakh and Indian player Samaira Raghav for ₹10 lakh.
Led by Australian all-rounder Ashleigh Gardner, Gujarat Giants retained 15 players before the auction and entered the event with ₹1.25 crore remaining in their purse. After spending ₹80 lakh on their three acquisitions, the franchise was left with ₹45 lakh. The additions take the squad to 18 players ahead of the fifth edition of the WPL.
G Kamalini headlines Gujarat Giants’ auction signings
G Kamalini was Gujarat Giants’ most expensive signing at the auction, joining for ₹40 lakh after being released by Mumbai Indians. The 18-year-old left-handed batter and wicketkeeper is regarded as a promising young Indian cricketer.
Kamalini came into the spotlight through her performances in age-group cricket and received her maiden international call-up in late 2025. Her addition gives Gujarat another wicketkeeping option and strengthens their domestic batting resources.
The franchise’s second signing was Ireland all-rounder Orla Prendergast, who was bought for ₹30 lakh. She brings international experience and becomes the first Irish player to be selected in the WPL auction, according to reports. Her ability to contribute with both bat and ball gives Gujarat another option in the all-rounder department.
Gujarat completed its auction business by signing Samaira Raghav for ₹10 lakh, her base price.
The three auction purchases were:
- G Kamalini — ₹40 lakh
- Orla Prendergast — ₹30 lakh
- Samaira Raghav — ₹10 lakh
The signings reflect a targeted approach, with Gujarat adding a wicketkeeper-batter, an overseas all-rounder and another Indian player while preserving much of its existing squad.

The squad features a mix of international experience and Indian talent. Gardner, Mooney, Devine and Wareham offer established international quality, while Renuka Singh and Kashvee Gautam strengthen the bowling resources. The new arrivals provide additional options in batting, wicketkeeping and all-round play.
Ashleigh Gardner continues to lead the team
Gardner remains central to Gujarat Giants’ plans for the upcoming season. The Australian all-rounder provides leadership and contributes in both batting and bowling, making her an important part of the team’s balance.
Mooney offers experience behind the stumps and at the top of the order, while Devine brings power-hitting and seam-bowling options. Wareham adds leg-spin, and Kim Garth provides another overseas pace-bowling choice.
Among the Indian players, Renuka Singh is an important fast-bowling option, while Rajeshwari Gayakwad and Tanuja Kanwer add spin resources. Bharti Fulmali and Kanika Ahuja provide further batting depth, giving the management choices when shaping the playing XI.
Kamalini’s arrival adds competition for the wicketkeeping role, while Prendergast expands the overseas all-rounder options. Samaira Raghav will also have an opportunity to establish herself within the squad.
The final playing combination will depend on player form, fitness, match conditions and the balance required for each fixture.
Gujarat Giants aim to build on their playoff campaign
Gujarat Giants entered the auction looking to make selective additions rather than undertake a major overhaul. The franchise had retained 15 players and released four ahead of the event, leaving three places to fill.
Their final auction expenditure of ₹80 lakh allowed them to complete the squad while retaining ₹45 lakh. The signings address specific squad requirements, particularly wicketkeeping and all-round depth, without exhausting the available budget.
The team will now focus on preparing for the 2027 campaign. Its experienced overseas players and established Indian contingent will be expected to provide consistency, while the new recruits will look to make an impact when opportunities arise.
With Gardner leading a largely settled group, Gujarat Giants will aim to turn their squad balance into consistent performances and challenge for the WPL title in the upcoming season.
