Former Indian cricketer Harbhajan Singh has dismissed the much-anticipated India-Pakistan match in the ICC Champions Trophy as “overhyped,” predicting that India will dominate their arch-rivals on February 23. Speaking on his YouTube channel, Harbhajan highlighted India’s superior squad strength and Pakistan’s inconsistency as key factors, stating that the game will likely not be competitive.
He pointed out that Pakistan’s recent loss to New Zealand and their overall form make them the weaker side. “India is a very strong team,” Harbhajan said, emphasizing the stark difference in quality between the two sides. While he acknowledged the talents of Pakistan’s Babar Azam and Mohammad Rizwan, he noted that apart from them, no other batsman in Pakistan’s lineup stands out. Additionally, their bowling attack lacks form.
Harbhajan identified Fakhar Zaman as a potential threat, citing his solid average of 46 against India. However, he stressed that Pakistan’s batting and bowling units, on the whole, fail to inspire confidence against India. On the other hand, India boasts key players like Rohit Sharma, Shubman Gill, Virat Kohli, and KL Rahul, all in good form leading into the tournament.
Harbhajan also dismissed the high ticket prices for the game, suggesting the match would not be as exciting as many expect. Despite the hype surrounding the fixture, he believes India’s superiority will result in a one-sided encounter.
Looking ahead, Harbhajan singled out Afghanistan as a potential dark horse for the tournament but reiterated that India are the favorites to capture the Champions Trophy title.
