Gurugram: In a significant development for Haryana’s sporting ecosystem, the Haryana Corporate Premier League (HCPL) was officially launched with the aim of transforming corporate, grassroots and women’s cricket in the state. The unveiling took place in the presence of former Indian cricketer Praveen Kumar and celebrated Kabaddi player Pardeep Narwal, both of whom have been named brand ambassadors for the league’s inaugural season.
The league has been conceptualised as an inclusive platform to bring together cricketing talent from diverse backgrounds, including corporate professionals, grassroots players, academy trainees and local enthusiasts. With a structured approach and professional framework, HCPL seeks to create opportunities for players who often lack exposure to higher levels of competition.
Inclusive platform for emerging talent
The organisers emphasised that HCPL is designed to bridge the gap between recreational and professional cricket. By integrating players from different walks of life, the league aims to foster a competitive yet inclusive environment where talent can flourish irrespective of social or professional background.
A key highlight of the initiative is the launch of the HCPL Women’s Cricket League. This parallel competition will provide aspiring women cricketers with a dedicated platform to showcase their abilities and gain professional exposure. The move reflects a growing emphasis on gender inclusivity in Indian sports and aligns with broader efforts to promote women’s participation in cricket.
Talent hunt and professional exposure
To ensure a fair and transparent selection process, HCPL will conduct zone-based trials across Haryana and neighbouring states. These trials will form part of a large-scale talent identification programme aimed at discovering promising cricketers from grassroots levels.
Selected players will enter a player auction system, giving them a taste of franchise-based cricket similar to established leagues. The organisers also confirmed that the matches will receive national broadcast coverage, providing players with visibility and recognition beyond regional boundaries.
Founder Deepanshu Mohan Rewalia stated that the league is built on the vision of creating an ecosystem where passion meets opportunity. He highlighted that the inclusion of a women’s league is a crucial step towards ensuring equal opportunities for all aspiring cricketers.
Vision for a unified cricket ecosystem
Co-founder Ravi Goyal described HCPL as more than just a sporting event, calling it a celebration of Haryana’s rich sporting culture. He noted that the league allows individuals from different professions to compete together, breaking traditional barriers in sports participation.
According to Goyal, the initiative will enable a software engineer, a farmer and an entrepreneur to share the same dressing room, reinforcing the idea that talent and determination transcend social distinctions. The addition of the women’s league further strengthens this inclusive vision.
Support from sports fraternity
The launch event witnessed participation from several prominent personalities from sports and entertainment, underlining the importance of the initiative. Praveen Kumar praised HCPL as a valuable platform for budding cricketers, stating that Haryana has consistently produced top sporting talent and such leagues can provide the necessary exposure.
Pardeep Narwal also expressed support for the initiative, highlighting the need for structured platforms in a sports-driven state like Haryana. He noted that HCPL has the potential to nurture talent and contribute to the development of athletes across disciplines.
Other notable attendees included Padma Shri awardee and Dronacharya Award recipient Dr Sunil Dabas, judo coach Ajay Kumar, boxer Sagar Dhanda, and several other accomplished athletes and coaches.
A step towards future growth
With its comprehensive structure and focus on inclusivity, HCPL is poised to emerge as a prominent cricketing platform in Haryana. By combining grassroots development with professional exposure, the league aims to create a sustainable pathway for aspiring players.
The introduction of the women’s league further enhances its impact, ensuring that opportunities are accessible to all. As the league prepares for its inaugural season, it is expected to play a crucial role in shaping the future of cricket in the region and beyond.
