At the recently concluded International Cricket Council (ICC) Annual Conference in Colombo, there were no formal proposals put forth for a bilateral T20I series between India and Pakistan on neutral territory, contrary to earlier speculations. Reports had suggested that Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chairman Mohsin Naqvi might seek India’s participation in a series slated for 2025, amidst discussions about hosting arrangements for the Champions Trophy.
According to sources cited by PTI, the PCB has denied any current proposal for such a series, emphasizing their primary focus on organizing the Champions Trophy effectively. “There is no such proposal on the table or under consideration because right now the biggest challenge for us is to organise the Champions Trophy in a befitting manner and we also have a packed international schedule,” stated the source.
Meanwhile, the ICC’s official statement from the conference did not mention the Champions Trophy, but instead highlighted other developments, including putting USA Cricket on notice regarding compliance with membership criteria.
Looking ahead, while India is scheduled to play Pakistan in the Champions Trophy in Pakistan from February 19, there remains uncertainty about India’s participation due to logistical and security concerns. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) may explore alternatives, similar to the hybrid model used in the 2023 Asia Cup, where matches were split between Pakistan and Sri Lanka.
As discussions continue, the cricketing community awaits further developments regarding the future of bilateral engagements between India and Pakistan, amidst ongoing logistical considerations and diplomatic dynamics.
