In light of escalating military tensions between India and Pakistan, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has temporarily halted the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025, citing security concerns as the primary reason. This decision followed the cancellation of the Punjab Kings vs Delhi Capitals fixture in Dharamsala, a location barely 100 km from Pathankot, where air raid warnings had been issued.

The match initially began late due to rain, but was suspended after stadium floodlights failed, and players were informed about potential threats. According to sources, international players grew anxious, with some expressing readiness to return home amid the rising unrest.

BCCI insiders told Hindustan Times, “Our foremost responsibility is to ensure everyone’s well-being. At this point, national priorities outweigh sporting events.” The decision was made after consultations with the IPL governing body, with further decisions on resumption pending.

The venue was evacuated, and crowds exited while chanting slogans against Pakistan. Air travel was suspended, and teams rerouted to safer zones.

This move coincides with India’s retaliatory strikes under Operation Sindoor, launched after the Pahalgam terror attack on April 22 that claimed 26 civilian lives. Indian forces struck terror group hideouts in Pakistan and PoK. In retaliation, Pakistan targeted Indian border cities, including Jammu and Pathankot, but was successfully repelled by Indian forces.

Amid the heightened alert, the Pakistan Cricket Board has relocated the rest of the PSL to the UAE.
