Ahead of Indian Premier League (IPL) matches scheduled at M Chinnaswamy Stadium, Bengaluru City Police have announced a comprehensive security and traffic management plan, urging spectators to cooperate and “cheer responsibly”.
Focus on safety and crowd control
Police Commissioner Seemant Kumar Singh stated that this year’s arrangements have been significantly redesigned to ensure a safer and smoother experience for fans. Authorities are focusing on crowd control, streamlined entry systems, and reduced congestion around the stadium.
The measures aim to handle large crowds efficiently while maintaining public safety during high-profile matches.
QR-based digital ticketing mandatory
In a major shift, entry to the stadium will be allowed only through mobile-based QR code tickets. These tickets will be generated shortly before the gates open and will be strictly non-transferable, linked directly to individual users.
Officials have warned the public against purchasing tickets from unauthorised sources, cautioning that such transactions could lead to fraud and legal consequences.
Public transport strongly encouraged
To reduce traffic congestion, spectators have been urged to rely on public transport, particularly the Namma Metro. Authorities expect heavy vehicular movement around the stadium and have planned measures to minimise disruptions.
Traffic diversions and restrictions will be enforced in key areas surrounding the venue during match days.
Enhanced coordination and monitoring
The revamped plan includes coordinated efforts between police, transport authorities, and event organisers to ensure smooth operations. Surveillance systems and on-ground personnel will monitor crowd movement and respond swiftly to any issues.
“Cheer responsibly” campaign
As part of public awareness, Bengaluru Police have introduced the message “Cheer responsibly”, encouraging fans to follow rules, avoid overcrowding, and maintain discipline during the matches.
With matches scheduled on March 26 and April 5, authorities have called for full public cooperation to ensure a safe and enjoyable IPL experience in the city.
