After being diagnosed with skin cancer, WWE legend and actor John Cena has become a strong advocate for daily sunscreen use. In an interview with People, Cena admitted that he never applied sunscreen until his dermatologist discovered a cancerous spot on his chest during a routine exam.
“I was lucky,” Cena shared, adding that his dermatologist guided him through the alarming experience. “Those stats don’t hit you until it becomes personal.” A year later, another suspicious spot was found near his shoulder, reinforcing the importance of skin protection. “You’ll see it if you watch WWE — a white polka dot on my chest and shoulder,” he added.
Now, Cena wears sunscreen daily, seeing it as a simple act of self-care. “It’s a reminder to take just a few extra seconds to protect myself.”
Backing this, Dr. Shareefa Chause, dermatologist at Dr Shareefa Skin Care Clinic in Mumbai, emphasized that sunscreen isn’t just cosmetic — it’s essential. “Daily application, even on cloudy days, shields your skin from UV rays, which are a major cause of skin cancer,” she explained.
She also pointed out that both men and women need to apply sunscreen without fail. UV exposure over time can damage DNA and raise the risk of conditions like melanoma. Dermatologist-approved sunscreens help reduce this risk and maintain long-term skin health.
Make sunscreen a non-negotiable part of your routine — not just for beauty, but for safety.
