Bengaluru: In a moment of immense pride for the state, Karnataka Chief Minister Shri Siddaramaiah on Tuesday felicitated the Indian Women’s Blind Cricket Team and announced a cash award of ₹10 lakh each for the three Karnataka players who played a pivotal role in India’s victory at the SBI 1st Women’s T20 World Cup – Cricket for the Blind 2025.
He also assured Government jobs for the three players, marking one of the most significant recognitions given to women’s blind cricket in India.

Karnataka’s pride: Three champions honoured

The Chief Minister congratulated the team and expressed joy that three Kannadigas — Captain Deepika, Kavya V and Kavya N.R. — were instrumental in India’s world title win. Calling Deepika’s leadership “a proud moment for Karnataka,” he lauded their grit, resilience and inspiring performances that lifted the nation.

In addition to the special recognition for Karnataka players, the remaining squad members will receive ₹2 lakh each, honouring their contribution to India’s historic triumph in Colombo on November 23.

Honouring Samarthanam–CABI for their contribution

During the ceremony, the Chief Minister also felicitated officials of Samarthanam Trust for the Disabled and the Cricket Association for the Blind in India (CABI), including
Dr. Mahantesh G. Kivadasannavar, Chairman of CABI and Founder & Managing Trustee of Samarthanam.

Dr. Mahantesh expressed deep gratitude to the Chief Minister and the Government of Karnataka, stating that the gesture reflects a strong commitment to empowering cricketers with disabilities.
“This recognition will inspire countless young girls to dream fearlessly and pursue the sport with confidence,” he said.

Ministers express support for inclusive sports

Several dignitaries were present and extended their support:

  • Dr. M. C. Sudhakar, Minister for Higher Education, who appreciated Samarthanam’s work and congratulated the team
  • Smt. Lakshmi Hebbalkar, Minister for Women and Child Development, Disabled and Senior Citizens Empowerment, who reiterated her support for job opportunities
  • H. C. Mahadevappa, Minister for Social Welfare, who applauded the players’ achievement

Their presence highlighted the government’s unified commitment to strengthening the ecosystem for blind cricket and promoting inclusivity in sports.

A growing list of honours for the world champions

The state-level recognition follows the ₹1 lakh per player contribution from Chintals Group, announced soon after India clinched the world title. With Karnataka’s new announcement, the women’s blind cricket team continues to receive unprecedented national appreciation for its groundbreaking victory.

Karnataka’s gesture marks a powerful step forward in celebrating ability over disability — and in ensuring that the champions who made history receive the honour they truly deserve.
