Kevin O’Brien retires from International Cricket

Irish star all-rounder Kevin O’Brien announced his retirement from international cricket on Tuesday August 16. The cricketer made the announcement via the player’s Twitter account. The star cricketer posted a thank you through note in the tweet.

Kevin thanked his family, friends, coaches, wife and his fans who supported and encouraged him to become the player that he is. Cricketer also revealed that he wanted to represent the country in the T20 World Cup this year but however he was not included in the squad since last World Cup exit made him call quits prematurely.

Kevin had a very long international career spanning over 16 years as an Irish cricketer, who represented in over 266 matches across formats and was a key player for the side with both bat and bowl. Cricketer rose to fame after a match-winning knock against mighty England side in the 2011 Cricket World Cup, Kevin smashed 113 off 63 deliveries chasing the mammoth total of 328 at Chinnaswamy Stadium. Kevin created history by scoring the fastest World Cup century.

Kevin is one of most decorated Irish cricketers ever. He is the only Irish cricketer to score a ton in Tests till date. He is the third highest run scorer for Ireland in one-day cricket with 3619 runs to his name along with 114 wickets in the format. He is the country’s second highest run-getter in T20i cricket with 1973 runs in the format.
