Pakistan top-order batter Sidra Amin has been reprimanded by the International Cricket Council (ICC) for breaching its Code of Conduct during the Women’s World Cup 2025 match against India in Colombo on Sunday.
The incident occurred after Amin was dismissed in the 40th over of Pakistan’s innings. In frustration, she forcefully struck her bat on the pitch, prompting the ICC to take action.
ICC Code of Conduct violation
The ICC stated that Amin’s behaviour constituted a Level 1 breach of its Code of Conduct. Specifically, she was found guilty of violating:
- Article 2.2 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel, which covers abuse of cricket equipment or clothing, ground equipment, or fixtures and fittings during an international match.
The 33-year-old batter has received an official reprimand, the ICC added, but there is no suspension or fine associated with this Level 1 breach.
Context and cricketing impact
While such breaches are relatively minor, the ICC maintains strict standards to ensure discipline and sportsmanship in international cricket. Incidents like Amin’s, though brief, are documented to maintain accountability and deter players from expressing frustration in ways that can damage equipment or the spirit of the game.
Pakistan lost the match against India, and Amin’s dismissal came at a critical stage, intensifying her visible frustration on the field.
