Former Australian skipper Ricky Ponting has showered praise on Ravindra Jadeja, Axar Patel, and Hardik Pandya for their exceptional performances in the 2025 Champions Trophy, which India clinched under Rohit Sharma’s leadership.

All-Rounders Steal the Show

Speaking on The ICC Review, Ponting highlighted their significant impact throughout the tournament. “India’s all-rounders were phenomenal. Jadeja, Axar, and Hardik played pivotal roles. At the tournament’s start, I believed India would be tough to beat due to their perfect blend of youth and experience. In the final, Rohit once again delivered when it mattered most,” he said.

Balance and Depth in the Squad

Ponting emphasized how having three quality all-rounders gave India depth in batting and flexibility in bowling. “India already had a well-balanced team, but Axar’s ability to bat up the order, alongside Hardik’s versatility and Jadeja’s consistency, made them a formidable side,” he noted.

Pandya’s Crucial Role with the Ball

Although some believed India’s pace attack lacked depth, Ponting pointed out that Hardik’s ability to bowl early overs with the new ball eased pressure on the spinners. “His contribution in the Powerplay and middle overs allowed the spinners to dominate later,” he added.

Axar Patel’s Growth

Ponting also credited Axar Patel’s evolution as a batsman, especially under his guidance at Delhi Capitals. “His controlled front-foot play and shot selection improved drastically, and he made crucial contributions, stabilizing the innings before KL Rahul, Pandya, and Jadeja took over,” he said.
