Rafael Nadal has confirmed his retirement from professional tennis, set to take place next month after the Davis Cup Finals in Malaga. Spain will face the Netherlands in what will be Nadal’s final appearance on the court. In a heartfelt video message, the 22-time Grand Slam champion revealed that the last few years have been challenging due to persistent injuries.
“I am here to let you know I am retiring from professional tennis. The reality is that it has been some difficult years, the last two especially. I don’t think I have been able to play without limitations,” Nadal said.
Known as the “King of Clay,” Nadal’s dominance at the French Open was unparalleled, winning the title 14 times. His 22 Grand Slam victories are second only to Novak Djokovic, who currently holds 24 titles.
