Lok Sabha elections 2024 : Rahul Dravid and Anil Kumble Vote in Bengaluru

Former Indian cricket captain and current head coach of the Indian cricket team, Rahul Dravid, fulfilled his civic duty by casting his vote at a polling booth in Bengaluru during the ongoing Lok Sabha elections. In a display of solidarity with fellow citizens, Dravid patiently stood in line before exercising his voting rights. Encouraging active participation in the democratic process, he urged people to make use of their voting privilege. Following his ballot, Dravid emphasized the importance of voting, stating, “Everyone must come out and vote. It is an opportunity we get in a democracy.” Anil Kumble, Dravid’s esteemed former teammate and renowned Indian spinner, also contributed to the democratic process by casting his vote in Bengaluru.

Kumble further reinforced the importance of voting in a tweet: “#Vote #Indiaelections2024 #Karnataka #bengaluru.”

The state of Karnataka, holding significant sway with 28 seats in the 543-member Parliament, is conducting elections in two phases. On this particular day, 14 seats are up for grabs, including Udupi Chikamagalur, Hassan, Dakshina Kannada, Chitradurga, Tumkur, Mandya, Mysore, Chamarajanagar, Bangalore Rural, Bangalore North, Bangalore Central, Bangalore South, Chikballapur, and Kolar.

In the 2019 elections, Karnataka witnessed the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) securing 25 out of 28 seats. This time, the BJP is contesting in 25 seats, while its state ally, the Janata Dal (Secular) or JDS, is vying for the remaining 3 seats. JDS is focusing its efforts on the second phase constituencies of Hassan, Mandya, and Kolar.

Polling commenced at 7 am and will continue until 6 pm. This phase marks the second in a series of seven phases of the Lok Sabha election, touted as the world’s largest electoral exercise. The first phase, held on April 19 across 21 states and Union Territories, witnessed a voter turnout of over 62 percent, according to the Election Commission. The next phase is scheduled for May 7.
