Former India captain Rahul Dravid stole the spotlight at Mount Joy Cricket Club’s golden jubilee celebration on Sunday. Dravid, accompanied by cricket legend G.R. Viswanath, honored key members of the club, including Secretary B.K. Ravi, and interacted with prominent State players and promising junior cricketers.
Ravi recounted an anecdote from the 1980s, revealing that Dravid had once been a young schoolboy who thwarted Mount Joy CC’s efforts in a Mysuru match. The revelation was met with enthusiastic applause from the audience.
Dravid emphasized the significance of a robust club cricket structure, noting that clubs teach valuable life skills such as discipline, teamwork, and fitness. He expressed the need to nurture talent across Bengaluru and Karnataka, stressing the importance of providing young cricketers with access to quality infrastructure.
Dravid also reflected on his early experiences with club cricket, highlighting the inspiration he drew from players like Viswanath and the lessons learned through the game.
The event, marking Mount Joy CC’s 50 years since its formation in 1974, saw Dravid signing autographs and taking photos with young fans before departing.
