Indian cricketer Rinku Singh shared an emotional message on social media after India’s victory in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup, remembering his father Khanchand Singh, who passed away during the tournament.
Khanchand Singh was battling Stage 4 cancer and was undergoing treatment at Yatharth Hospital when his condition worsened during the competition.
Personal loss during World Cup campaign
Ahead of India’s Super Eights match against the West Indies on March 1, Rinku left the team camp to perform his father’s last rites after his passing.
Earlier in the tournament, he had briefly returned home when his father’s health deteriorated. Despite the personal tragedy, the cricketer rejoined the squad to continue representing India in the global tournament.
According to Rinku, playing in the World Cup was part of fulfilling a dream that his father had always cherished.
A heartfelt message
In an emotional Instagram post, Rinku expressed his grief and gratitude for his father’s guidance.
“I have never gone these many days without talking to you. I don’t know how I will handle life going ahead. I will always need you,” he wrote.
“You taught me that responsibility is of utmost importance… Your dream has been fulfilled. Now I wish you were there with me. I will always miss you.”
The message reflected the emotional weight the cricketer carried while representing the country during the tournament.
Fans and teammates extend support
Rinku’s tribute resonated widely among fans and fellow cricketers, many of whom praised his strength and dedication during such a difficult period.
India eventually went on to defeat New Zealand national cricket team in the final to lift the T20 World Cup trophy.
Light moment after the victory
After the tournament, Rinku was seen at the airport with his fiancée Priya Saroj.
As he greeted friends and fans, Priya jokingly teased him, saying, “Mujhe bhool gaye kya?” (Did you forget me?), prompting the cricketer to laugh and hug her.
The emotional journey highlighted the personal sacrifices many athletes make while representing their country on the world stage.
