In a heartfelt ceremony at Mumbai’s iconic Wankhede Stadium, cricket superstar Rohit Sharma was honored with a stand named after him. Moments before the official unveiling, Rohit stepped down from the stage to escort his parents, Purnima and Gurunath, and wife Ritika, underscoring how much family means to him. At the count of three, Rohit’s parents pressed the buzzer alongside Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, setting off a spectacular fireworks display. Tears of joy welled up in Rohit’s mother and father, while Ritika quietly hid her emotions behind her father-in-law, capturing the deep emotions shared by the family.

Rohit himself struggled to hold back tears during his speech, expressing profound gratitude for the sacrifices his family made to help him reach this milestone. “It’s even more special to have my family here — parents, brother, wife. I am grateful for whatever they have sacrificed for me,” he said.

The ‘Rohit Sharma Stand’ puts him in esteemed company alongside cricketing legends like former India skipper Ajit Wadekar and ex-BCCI president Sharad Pawar, who were also honored with stands bearing their names.

Rohit described the moment as a childhood dream come true, saying, “I never dreamed of this — to have my name amongst the greats of the game.” Though retired from two formats, he’s still active in one and expressed hope of playing an ODI at Wankhede, where he made many cricketing memories.

Mumbai Indians teammate Suryakumar Yadav praised Rohit on Instagram, calling him an inspirational leader who has transformed not just the team but the entire spirit of the game.

Maharashtra CM Fadnavis also promised government support for a new stadium if proposed by the Mumbai Cricket Association, emphasizing Rohit’s stature as one of the state’s iconic sports figures.

This event was not just a tribute to Rohit’s achievements but a celebration of family, dreams fulfilled, and the legacy of a cricketing legend.
