Mangaluru: The Balavikasa English Medium School in Mani is set to host a grand Dodgeball Championship from Friday to Monday, drawing over 2,500 athletes across men’s and women’s categories.
For the first time, a dodgeball event of such magnitude—spanning international, national, and state levels—is being held in the rural heartland of Dakshina Kannada, marking a proud moment for the region.
The tournament is being organized by the Indian Dodgeball Federation, in association with the Karnataka State Dodgeball Association, Dakshina Kannada District Dodgeball Association, and the Mani Balavikasa Residential School.
Mahesh Shetty, secretary of the Mani Balavikasa Trust, shared on Tuesday that the event will see participation from three international teams, 42 national teams, and 38 state-level teams. Alongside thrilling matches, the event will feature interactive sessions, knowledge exchanges, and seminars related to the sport.
To enhance the community experience, a food festival has also been planned as a major crowd-puller. Various organizing committees comprising local residents have been formed to ensure the championship runs smoothly and inclusively.
The event will be inaugurated on Saturday at the Uday Chowta Indoor Stadium, named in memory of the late sports patron. Speaker of the Karnataka Legislative Assembly, UT Khader, will grace the occasion as chief guest, while J Prahlad Shetty, president of Balavikasa Trust, will preside.
