Mumbai: Legendary Indian cricketer Sachin Tendulkar has firmly rejected speculation linking him to the presidency of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). His management firm, SRT Sports Management Pvt Ltd, clarified that Tendulkar has neither been approached for the role nor expressed any interest in contesting the upcoming elections scheduled for September 28.

Official statement

In a statement released to the media, Tendulkar’s management said: “It has come to our attention that certain reports and rumours have been circulating regarding Mr. Sachin Tendulkar being considered, or nominated, for the position of President of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). We wish to categorically state that no such development has taken place.”

The statement urged media outlets and stakeholders not to give traction to speculation, highlighting that the former Indian captain is focused on other commitments and has no involvement in BCCI administrative matters.

Upcoming BCCI elections

The denial comes ahead of BCCI’s Annual General Meeting (AGM) and key elections. The submission deadline for state associations to nominate their representatives is September 12. While the roles of secretary, joint secretary, and treasurer are expected to see continuity, attention remains on the presidency and vice-presidency.

Current officeholders, including Devajit Saikia (secretary), Rohan Gauns Dessai (joint secretary), and Prabhtej Singh Bhati (treasurer), are likely to retain their positions. Meanwhile, current vice-president Rajeev Shukla’s future role remains uncertain, with speculation on whether he will contest for the presidency or retain his vice-president position.

Conclusion

Tendulkar’s denial has ended months of speculation linking him to BCCI leadership, keeping the focus on existing officeholders and potential contenders for the board’s top posts.
