Following the announcement, Mr. Malik’s post has caused agitation among internet users in the two countries.

Social media users from Pakistan have praised Ms. Mirza, with some stating that she was “too good” for Malik, 41.

“No drama was made, no games of blame, no outbursts on social media, no press conferences or interviews—Sania Mirza simply issued a statement wishing Shoaib Malik luck in his future. Referring to Sania Mirza’s family’s divorce announcement, a user on X (formerly Twitter) wrote, “She’s an elite athlete and an elite woman too.”

“I no longer believe in love marriage. Think what Sania Mirza must be going through. Allah should have given you better than him. What happened was good,” another wrote.

“She is a self-made woman of gold; she is so inspiring and ambitious. For Ms. Mirza, another user wrote, “You deserve better.”

In 2012, Sania Mirza and Shoaib Malik tied the knot. In October 2018, the couple received a boy as a blessing.

Sania Mirza’s family on Sunday confirmed that she has separated from Shoaib Malik “for a few months now”.

“Sania has always kept her personal life away from the public eye. However, today the need has arisen for her to share that Shoaib and she have been divorced for a few months now. She wishes Shoaib well for his new journey ahead!,” read the statement issued by Ms Mirza’s family.

“At this sensitive period of her life, we would like to request all fans and well-wishers to refrain from indulging in any speculation and to respect her need for privacy,” the statement added.

Pakistani film and television actress Sana Javed was born in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia in 1993.

She reportedly completed her elementary schooling at Karachi Grammar School before earning her degree from Pakistan’s University of Karachi.
