Six ways to raise a sportsperson in your family

The happiest event in any family is when a child is born. At that time, no one is certain about what the child would aspire to become when he/she grows up. The only concern parents have is to offer the best to the child, be it the care, love or the education. Especially when it comes to the higher education, parents do not leave any stone unturned.

But what if your kid has a sport bent instead of classroom education? Although people are aware of the celebrity status and challenges that sportspersons face, what most of them struggle to deal with is how to support such children.

Given below are some ways to uplift your child’s sports persona, and prepare to support them financially until they become the professional sportspersons they are born to be:

1. Let Them Explore

If you are thinking that concentrating on one sport will help your kid reach success sooner, then you should change your thoughts.

Let them play freely and discover multiple games until they decide which one they like the most. Kids change their interests too often. All you need to do is support them because forcing a specific game on them will steal their happiness. It will demotivate them, and they will lose their courage to do something outstanding. Encourage your little ones to experiment, after all, life is very long to stick to one profession.

2. Appreciate the Right Moves

Corrections can improve your children, but it can reduce their joy and interest. Instead, let them show their skills and observe the things they are doing right.

Make sure you don’t correct them at the initial stage, this can make them irritated. Appreciate the right moves and encourage them to do better. Many coaches believe that encouragement raises the performance better than correcting at all times.

3. Practice Is the Key

Explain to them the importance of practice, without forcing it on them. Take examples from the life of sportspersons and encourage them to practice hard like them. Put challenges in front of them. Kids are good at accepting challenges and working hard to win.

Call their fellows and encourage them to play together. Organize small competitions in your area and let them show their talent.

4. Chart out a Growth Path

Enrol your child in classes to further enhance his/her skills. Meet coaches and experts and learn how they can help build your child’s career.

Indulge in activities that can help build a positive career path for your kid. This can be as simple as encouraging activities like running, balancing, throwing, agility, coordination, and speed (to build broad, general movement skills).

5. Know the National/International Sports Federations

It’s better to have the knowledge of ‘National and International Sports Federations’, and the requirements and process to reach them. To start with, make your kid participate in inter-university tournaments, which can make him/her eligible for the Sports Talent Scholarship awarded by the Government of India and Department of Youth Affairs and Sports.

6. Be Financially Prepared

You need to have a financial corpus ready to support your kid’s sports career. For this, prepare a list of expenses, including the training budget to know the requirements in the coming years. Have a financial plan that can cater to your kid’s dream of becoming a sportsperson.

If protecting your child’s sports career is your first goal, then investing in a child education plan is the right decision. Child education plans are designed to financially support your child at every important stage of his life (including education, coaching, training and so on). Such plans ensure that your child gets the right financial help for his career advancement without any roadblocks.

Conclusion:

If you want to see your child as a successful sportsperson, encourage him/her, be supportive, go to games and discuss triumphs. But most importantly, start investing in his/her future from now.
