Skydiver gets attacked by seizure mid-air, trainer rushes with parachute
A pulse-racing skydiving incident has resurfaced online, capturing the terrifying moment a skydiver experienced a seizure mid-descent. The footage shows him losing control, spiraling uncontrollably while unconscious. In a breathtaking display of bravery, his instructor raced through the air to reach him. Acting with precision, the rescuer managed to stabilize his fall and deploy his parachute just in time, preventing a deadly outcome.
CNN reports that the incident occurred in 2015 when Christopher Jones from Perth, Australia, suffered a seizure during his skydive, flipping onto his back. Instructor Sheldon McFarlane, wearing a helmet-mounted camera, battled against gravity to reach him. He successfully grabbed Jones around 4,000 feet and activated his parachute. Jones regained awareness and landed safely.
“At no point did I fear he’d hit the ground without a parachute, but given the situation, I knew getting him under canopy sooner was better. On my second attempt, I reached him and deployed his chute,” McFarlane explained.
The resurfaced footage has captivated social media, showcasing the dangers of extreme sports and the value of split-second decision-making. Many praised the instructor’s courage.
One user wrote, “A real-life superhero moment.” Another commented, “Unbelievable teamwork—this is why training matters.” A third added, “Respect to the skydiver who saved a life mid-air.” Some questioned the risks involved, with one remarking, “Why attempt this if you have epilepsy?”
