Visakhapatnam, October 9, 2025: In a remarkable display of consistency and skill, India’s vice-captain Smriti Mandhana has broken the longstanding record for the most runs scored in a calendar year in women’s ODIs. During the ICC Women’s World Cup 2025 match against South Africa, Mandhana achieved this feat by hitting a six off Ayabonga Khaka, surpassing the previous record of 970 runs set by Australian legend Belinda Clark in 1997.
Mandhana’s record-breaking innings came after a rain delay at the ACA-VDCA Cricket Stadium. Despite a slow start to the World Cup, she has accumulated 972 runs in 17 innings this year, averaging 59.93 with a strike rate of 113.76. Her tally includes four centuries and three half-centuries, showcasing her ability to convert starts into substantial scores.
This achievement not only cements Mandhana’s place in cricket history but also underscores her pivotal role in India’s batting lineup. As she continues to lead by example, Mandhana’s record serves as an inspiration to aspiring cricketers worldwide.
