
Star Athletes Shine in 2024 Laureus World Sports Awards Nominations
The prestigious 2024 Laureus World Sports Awards have unveiled a dazzling shortlist, featuring Olympic champions and global sports icons. Among the standout nominees are Simone Biles, Mondo Duplantis, Leon Marchand, Faith Kipyegon, Sifan Hassan, and Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone, each vying for the coveted titles in their respective categories.
Simone Biles, the most decorated gymnast in history, is once again in the running for the World Sportswoman of the Year award, after winning three gold medals in Paris last year. Alongside Biles, McLaughlin-Levrone, Kipyegon, and Hassan are competing for the prestigious honor. Biles has previously triumphed in this category three times, alongside claiming the Comeback of the Year award in 2023.
On the men’s side, Swedish pole vaulter Mondo Duplantis, who set a new world record 11 times, and French swimmer Leon Marchand, who dominated the 2024 Olympic Games with four gold medals, are strong contenders for the Sportsman of the Year award.
Additionally, the Team of the Year nominees include powerhouse teams such as McLaren F1, Real Madrid, and the Boston Celtics. Meanwhile, emerging stars like Victor Wembanyama and Summer McIntosh are recognized in the Breakthrough of the Year category.
The winners will be announced during the glamorous ceremony in Madrid on April 16th.
