American swimming sensation Katie Ledecky has once again made history, breaking her own 800m freestyle world record at the Tyr Pro Series meet in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. With a time of 8 minutes 4.12 seconds, Ledecky surpassed her previous record of 8:04.79, which she set during the 2016 Rio Olympics.

The race itself was a masterclass in strategy. Ledecky started strong, maintaining the lead through the first 400 meters. While she briefly lost her position at the 450m and 500m marks, she regained control at 550m and surged ahead in a powerful final stretch to clinch the record-breaking performance.

This achievement follows a remarkable series of swims for Ledecky, including her second-fastest 400m freestyle time on Thursday—her best in nine years—and the second-fastest 1500m freestyle time in history earlier in the week.

The 28-year-old swimmer, who holds 15 world records in the 50m pool, had set her last world record in the 1500m freestyle in May 2018. Ledecky has a storied career, having won 9 Olympic golds and 21 World Championship medals, making her one of the greatest swimmers in history.
