As the Pro Kabaddi League Season 12 auction draws near on May 31 and June 1, U Mumba captain Sunil Kumar is gearing up for what he predicts will be a fiercely contested bidding war. After leading the franchise back to the playoffs in Season 11 following a seven-year gap, Kumar is optimistic about reinforcing the team’s foundation with a balanced mix of experience and youth.

“I’m hopeful about the auction. The management has a solid plan and we’re prepared to go beyond it if necessary,” Kumar said, reflecting confidence in U Mumba’s strategic approach.

Season 11 marked a turning point for U Mumba. With 12 wins, their highest tally since Season 7, the team showcased depth, discipline, and leadership, a blend Kumar wants to replicate and improve upon.

“To build a successful team, you need both veterans and fresh talent,” he emphasized. “Experienced players bring maturity and game sense, while young players contribute energy and agility. Together, they push the team forward.”

With top-tier players entering the Season 12 auction, competition will be intense. Kumar acknowledged the rich talent pool, saying, “It’s going to be very tough—every team will be aggressive in their bids.”

A renowned defender himself, Kumar knows the key role of defence in a team’s success. “Strong defence wins matches,” he said. “Our focus is on getting reliable corners and covers. I’m confident we’ll build a formidable defensive unit this season.”
