New Delhi: Former RCB captain and star batter Virat Kohli has called for a united effort to establish India as a “Sports Forward Nation” by 2036. Speaking at the RCB Innovation Lab Indian Sports Summit, Kohli stressed that achieving this goal requires more than just infrastructure—it demands public awareness and education about sports.
“We have the vision, and the groundwork is in progress. It’s a collective responsibility—not just for investors, athletes, or policymakers, but for everyone willing to understand and embrace sports,” he stated. Kohli emphasized the need for sports education over mere celebrations and fanaticism, asserting that deeper engagement would enhance India’s sporting experience tenfold.
Women’s Sports on the Rise
Kohli also praised the growing influence of women’s sports in India. He credited female athletes for drawing attention to themselves through their performances, which led to increased engagement, financial backing, and the formation of leagues like the Women’s Premier League (WPL).
“Developing sports culture isn’t just about men; it must include everyone. Women’s sports have immense potential across disciplines like cricket, tennis, badminton, wrestling, and boxing. With more support and better infrastructure, we are heading in the right direction,” Kohli added.
With this vision, Kohli hopes to see India emerge as a true global sports powerhouse in the years ahead.
