For a quarter-century, Vincent Menezes, an agriculturalist from Kokkada, has been combining the festive spirit of Christmas with a heartfelt message of environmental conservation. Inspired by spiritual leaders, Menezes embarks on a two-day journey each year, donning a Santa Claus outfit and riding a decorated motorbike.

Starting from his hometown, Menezes travels through Uppinangady and Bantwal before reaching Mangaluru. Along the way, he visits schools and colleges to entertain students and raise awareness about protecting the environment. Additionally, he spreads joy by distributing Christmas cakes in orphanages.

“I began this initiative in 2000, and this year marks its 25th anniversary,” shared Menezes. “Initially, I traveled from Kokkada to Shirady Ghat, but over time, I expanded the route to include Mangaluru as the final stop.”

For the first decade, Menezes carried out this journey between December 24 and 25. However, respecting his family’s wishes to celebrate Christmas together, he shifted the schedule to complete the trip before the festival begins. This year, he wrapped up his ride on Friday, continuing his legacy of joy and advocacy.

Vincent Menezes’ dedication exemplifies how one person’s initiative can bring smiles and inspire positive change, reminding everyone of the importance of celebration and responsibility.
