A 54-year-old woman, Premavva Cholin, tragically lost her life after being attacked by a pack of stray dogs in Gajendragad on Sunday morning. Hailing from Cholin Colony, Prema was either heading to the market to buy flowers or plucking flowers outside a home when the horrific incident occurred, according to differing accounts from relatives.
Shocked by the gruesome death, angry residents and Prema’s family members staged a protest in front of the Government Hospital. Protesters blamed the Gajendragad municipal authorities for ignoring repeated complaints about the rising threat from stray dogs. “These dogs become violent after feeding on meat. We’ve appealed several times—written and verbally—but the authorities failed to act,” said a protester from the colony.
Locals claimed that this tragedy could have been averted if officials and elected leaders had responded earlier to community concerns. The lack of sterilization drives and poor stray management have heightened fears, especially in vulnerable areas.
Gajendragad Town Municipal Council (TMC) president Subhash Myageri addressed the public anger, assuring action. He stated that the victim’s family will receive ₹3 lakh from the TMC and an additional ₹2 lakh through the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund, as promised by the local MLA.
As grief turns to outrage, residents demand accountability and lasting measures to prevent such tragedies from repeating.
