Kankanady Police arrested two individuals within 16 hours of a grocery shop theft at Pumpwell on the night of July 8. The arrested individuals are Mohammed Nazir Howsil, 27, and Iliyas Khan, 22, both from Uttar Pradesh.

The case was taken up on July 9 under the guidance of Police Commissioner Anupam Agrawal, DCP, and ACP South Division. The investigation team, led by Inspector T D Nagraj, interrogated auto drivers and locals, discovering that two Hindi-speaking youths had traveled towards the railway station.

Upon reviewing CCTV footage, it was found that the suspects had traveled on the Ernakulam-Pune Express. The railway authorities informed the police that the train had passed through Satara, Maharashtra. Police Commissioner Anupam Agrawal then contacted GRP Pune, who apprehended the accused in Pune. All the stolen property, including cash amounting to Rs 10 lakh, was recovered intact.

The accused were produced in court and have been remanded to three days of police custody.
