Amazon on Monday (October 20, 2025) confirmed that a major outage of its cloud computing service has been resolved, after the disruption caused widespread internet issues worldwide.
The outage affected a broad range of online services, including social media platforms, gaming apps, food delivery services, streaming platforms, and financial services, highlighting the deep reliance of modern society on a handful of cloud service providers.
The problem began earlier in the day, leaving millions of users across the globe unable to access services that depend on Amazon Web Services (AWS), the company’s flagship cloud platform. Social media feeds froze, online gaming servers went offline, and several apps failed to process transactions.
While the outage lasted several hours, Amazon engineers reportedly worked to isolate the issue and restore services. By Monday evening, the company announced that normal operations had resumed.
“The issue has been identified and resolved. Services are now fully operational,” an Amazon spokesperson said.
Experts noted that such disruptions underscore the vulnerability of the global internet ecosystem, where a single provider’s malfunction can ripple across multiple sectors, affecting both businesses and consumers.
“Modern society is heavily dependent on cloud infrastructure. While these systems are generally reliable, when they fail, the impact is felt across industries, from finance to entertainment to essential services,” said Dr. Sameer Kulkarni, a technology analyst based in Bengaluru.
The outage sparked frustration and concern worldwide, with many users turning to alternative platforms or offline options while services were down. Analysts are calling for more diversified cloud strategies among businesses to mitigate the risks of similar incidents in the future.
