DeepSeek, the Chinese AI startup, has quickly captured attention with its impressive capabilities, even surpassing OpenAI’s ChatGPT in App Store rankings. Its open-source nature and cutting-edge features have made it a favorite among tech enthusiasts and researchers globally. However, despite its rapid growth, Indian users are facing hurdles in fully utilizing the app.

How to Use DeepSeek in India

The DeepSeek mobile app is available for download on both the Google Play Store and the Apple App Store for free. Users can register using their email, mobile number, or Google account. Once registered, they can begin interacting with the AI chatbot.

Why DeepSeek is Currently Unavailable in India

While the app was once available globally, the Chinese startup has limited new sign-ups to mainland China, citing “large-scale malicious attacks” on its systems. As a result, registrations are temporarily restricted, and Indian users are unable to fully access the app. A message on the DeepSeek website reads: “Due to large-scale malicious attacks on DeepSeek’s services, registration may be busy. Please wait and try again.” However, registered users can still log in and use the service.

Clarification from DeepSeek

Amid growing concerns, DeepSeek clarified on its official X (formerly Twitter) account, urging users to avoid impersonators. The company reiterated that @deepseek_ai is its sole official account, and any similar accounts are fraudulent.

The ongoing limitations on registration have sparked interest in when the app will be fully accessible to Indian users, as DeepSeek continues to gain global traction.
