Day three of Designuru 5.0, Bengaluru’s flagship design festival being held at Karnataka Chitrakala Parishath, turned the spotlight on how technology is reshaping the future of the construction industry. The Saturday programme brought together architects, engineers, and industry leaders to explore new tools and alternative building systems that could redefine urban development.

AI, robotics and 3D printing take centre stage

The day began with a session on AI, Robotics, and 3D Printing in Construction, led by Adithya from Tvasta Construction, IIT Madras. The talk highlighted how artificial intelligence and robotic technologies are increasingly being used to simplify complex construction processes, improve efficiency, and reduce timelines.

Speakers emphasised that these technologies are no longer experimental but are fast becoming essential for building faster, safer, and more sustainable cities, especially as urban demand continues to grow.

Live demo shows future of on-site building

Following the session, attendees witnessed a live demonstration of 3D printing in construction, inaugurated by architect Dinesh Verma. The exhibit offered a hands-on view of how additive manufacturing can be used directly at construction sites, reducing material waste and labour dependency.

The demonstration marked a shift away from conventional construction practices and sparked discussions on how scalable and practical 3D printing could become for housing and infrastructure projects in India.

Focus on alternate construction technologies

The noon session, titled “Alternate Construction Technologies”, focused on future-ready building systems designed for speed and quality. Srinivas Reddy, Managing Director of ARTO, spoke about precast construction technology, describing it as a reliable solution for rapid urban development.

He highlighted benefits such as shorter construction timelines, consistent quality control, and cost efficiency—factors that are increasingly critical in large-scale projects.

Bridging design, tech, and urban futures

The sessions were hosted by architect Anshul Chodha and engineer Arjun, who underscored Designuru 5.0’s broader goal of bridging the gap between design innovation, technology, and Bengaluru’s evolving urban infrastructure.

Participants noted that the discussions reflected a growing urgency to rethink traditional construction methods and embrace technology-driven solutions for the city’s future.
