New Delhi: Intuitive, a global technology company focused on minimally invasive care and robotic-assisted surgery, has introduced its latest-generation da Vinci 5 surgical system in India, marking a new addition to the company’s robotic surgery portfolio in the country.

The company announced the introduction on September 18, 2026, saying the India rollout will initially focus on selected hospitals and surgical programmes. The approach is intended to help healthcare teams build experience with the new platform and support its adoption within India’s expanding robotic-assisted surgery ecosystem.
According to Intuitive, surgeons across India have already performed more than 2 lakh procedures using da Vinci surgical systems.
Da Vinci 5 brings more than 150 enhancements
The da Vinci 5 system builds on the design of the existing da Vinci Xi platform and incorporates more than 150 enhancements, according to Intuitive.
The company said the new system has been designed around three broad areas: enhanced surgical capabilities, operational efficiency and actionable insights.
Among its most notable features is Force Feedback technology, which Intuitive describes as a first-of-its-kind capability for its da Vinci platform. The technology is designed to provide surgeons with an increased awareness of the forces exerted on tissue during an operation.
Through the hand controls at the da Vinci 5 surgeon console, the system is designed to allow surgeons to perceive push and pull forces during surgery. Intuitive said the feature is intended to enhance intra-operative awareness while surgeons perform minimally invasive procedures.
The platform also includes what the company describes as its most realistic 3D da Vinci vision system to date.
Focus on surgeon experience
The new system has been designed with an ergonomic and immersive surgeon console, with Intuitive saying the design is intended to support surgeon comfort and career longevity.

The company said the console and other platform features are aimed at providing surgeons with a more seamless operating experience while maintaining access to the information needed during procedures.
The system also gives surgeons greater control over selected components through integrated controls that can be operated at their fingertips, according to the company.
Intuitive said the platform includes a universal user interface intended to streamline interactions among members of the care team. It also incorporates dynamic assistance designed to automate selected tasks and simplify workflow.

Advanced computing and data capabilities
Another major component of da Vinci 5 is its computing and sensing architecture.
Intuitive said the platform has 10,000 times more computing power than previous generations of its technology. The company has combined this computing capability with new sensors, software and advanced processors.
The objective, according to Intuitive, is to provide surgeons with more usable information that can help them quantify and understand surgical performance.

The company said these capabilities are intended to support continuous improvement in surgical performance and patient care by providing data that can be used to better understand procedures.
The platform therefore represents not only an expansion of robotic-assisted surgical capabilities but also a greater emphasis on data and connected technology within the operating environment.
Intuitive plans focused India introduction
Intuitive said da Vinci 5 will initially be introduced through selected hospitals and programmes in India. The focused approach is intended to allow surgical teams to develop experience with the technology as the country’s robotic-assisted surgery ecosystem continues to evolve.

He said the healthcare ecosystem was increasingly moving beyond technology adoption alone towards the use of innovation to support patient outcomes, surgical excellence and healthcare delivery.
Mahajan highlighted Force Feedback, enhanced computing capabilities, integrated workflows and connected learning as some of the features intended to support surgeons and healthcare teams.
He also said Intuitive’s role would extend beyond introducing the technology, with the company planning to work with hospitals, surgeons and healthcare teams on training, clinical evidence and support infrastructure.
According to Mahajan, these efforts are intended to support responsible and sustainable access to robotic-assisted surgery across India.
Company highlights next generation of robotic surgery

He said the system combines sensing and vision technologies, intelligent software and integrated workflows within a single platform.
According to Jeddi, the combination is designed to provide surgeons with more information, greater awareness and a more seamless surgical experience.
The introduction comes as robotic-assisted surgery continues to expand in India, with hospitals increasingly incorporating robotic platforms into their surgical programmes.
With more than 2 lakh procedures already performed using da Vinci systems in India, Intuitive’s latest platform represents the company’s next stage of development in the country’s market.
The initial rollout of da Vinci 5 will allow selected hospitals and surgical teams to gain experience with the platform before any broader expansion. Intuitive said its focus on training, clinical evidence and support infrastructure would form part of the effort to encourage responsible adoption as robotic-assisted surgery develops further across India.
