New Delhi: iQOO has confirmed that its next flagship smartphone, the iQOO 16, will launch in India with Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6 processor, positioning the device as a premium contender in the country’s high-performance smartphone market.

The announcement was made at a Snapdragon event during the India Mobile Congress (IMC) 2026, where iQOO chief executive officer Nipun Marya showcased the upcoming smartphone. The confirmation followed an earlier teaser from the company, raising expectations among consumers waiting for its next flagship device.

The iQOO 16 has already debuted in China, where its specifications include a high-resolution AMOLED display, a large battery, fast charging and a triple rear camera system. However, the company has yet to announce the exact India launch date, local pricing or the complete specifications of the Indian variant.

The smartphone is expected to compete with upcoming premium devices from brands such as Motorola and Xiaomi, as manufacturers increasingly focus on powerful processors, advanced displays and AI-enabled features to differentiate their flagship offerings.

Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6 takes centre stage

The processor is one of the biggest highlights of the iQOO 16. Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6 is built using a 2-nanometre manufacturing process and is designed to deliver high performance alongside improvements in power efficiency.

A flagship chipset can influence several aspects of smartphone performance, including gaming, application responsiveness, image processing, multitasking and on-device artificial intelligence.

The processor’s next-generation Qualcomm Hexagon neural processing unit (NPU) is designed to support AI workloads. Such capabilities can help smartphones process certain AI tasks directly on the device, depending on the software and applications being used.

For gaming-focused users, processing power and graphics performance are particularly important. Demanding mobile games require sustained performance, efficient thermal management and a display capable of delivering smooth visuals.

The iQOO 16’s combination of a flagship processor and a high-refresh-rate screen could make it attractive to users who prioritise gaming and performance-intensive applications.

However, real-world performance will depend on factors such as software optimisation, cooling, battery management and the specific configuration offered in India. Independent testing will be needed to establish how the phone performs under sustained workloads.

iQOO 16 display and gaming features

The China-market iQOO 16 features a 6.85-inch Samsung M16 LTPO AMOLED display with 2K resolution and a refresh rate of up to 165Hz.

The high refresh rate is designed to make scrolling, animations and supported games appear smoother. LTPO technology can dynamically adjust the display’s refresh rate according to the content being shown, helping balance visual performance and power consumption.

The display is also reported to support high brightness levels, which could improve visibility in bright outdoor conditions. Actual brightness and refresh-rate behaviour can vary depending on settings, content and environmental conditions.

For gaming, a high-resolution display paired with a powerful processor can provide detailed visuals and responsive gameplay. However, games must support high frame rates to take full advantage of a 165Hz panel.

The Chinese model also includes a dedicated Q4 gaming chip, which is intended to support gaming performance. Whether the Indian variant will retain all these hardware features remains to be confirmed.

Large battery and fast charging

Battery capacity is another major highlight of the China-market iQOO 16. The device is equipped with an 8,400mAh battery, significantly larger than the batteries found in many conventional flagship smartphones.

The phone supports 100W wired fast charging and 40W wireless charging in China. It also includes a direct-drive power supply feature designed to bypass the battery during intensive gaming sessions, potentially reducing battery stress and heat generation in supported scenarios.

A large battery could appeal to users who spend long periods gaming, streaming videos, navigating or using demanding applications. Nevertheless, battery endurance depends on several factors, including screen brightness, network conditions, processor load and software optimisation.

Charging performance will also depend on the compatible charger, charging settings and temperature management.

The company has not yet confirmed whether the Indian variant will feature the same battery capacity and charging specifications. Buyers should therefore wait for the official India specification sheet before treating the China-market details as final.

Triple 50MP rear cameras expected

The Chinese iQOO 16 comes with three 50-megapixel rear cameras: a primary sensor with optical image stabilisation, an ultra-wide camera and a periscope telephoto camera offering 3x optical zoom.

The primary camera’s optical image stabilisation is designed to reduce the effect of hand movement, particularly when shooting in challenging lighting conditions. The ultra-wide camera provides a broader field of view for landscapes and group photographs, while the periscope telephoto camera is intended for subjects at a distance.

The phone also features a 32-megapixel front camera for selfies and video calls.

Although the resolution figures indicate a versatile camera setup, megapixel counts alone do not determine image quality. Sensor size, lens quality, image processing, stabilisation and software all contribute to the final result.

The Indian camera configuration has not been independently confirmed by the company. It remains to be seen whether the local variant will retain the same sensors and camera capabilities as the Chinese model.

OriginOS 7 and Android 17

The China-market iQOO 16 runs OriginOS 7 based on Android 17. The software includes features intended to improve multitasking, productivity and the overall user experience.

One reported feature is Atomic Workbench, which allows users to run multiple applications on a single screen. The phone also includes a 3D ultrasonic in-display fingerprint sensor, stereo speakers and an infrared sensor.

OriginOS is central to the device’s software experience, but the final software configuration for India has not been fully detailed. The company will need to clarify the operating system, pre-installed applications and software support applicable to Indian buyers.

Software updates and long-term support are increasingly important considerations in the premium smartphone segment, particularly for customers who expect to use their devices for several years.

India price and launch date remain unannounced

Despite confirming the Indian launch, iQOO has not disclosed when the iQOO 16 will go on sale in the country. Its India price and available RAM and storage configurations are also yet to be announced.

The smartphone’s Chinese pricing provides a reference point, but it should not be treated as an indication of the final Indian retail price. Taxes, regional pricing strategies, distribution costs and the available configurations can affect the price in India.

The phone will enter a competitive premium market, where performance-focused devices must balance processing power, battery life, camera quality, software support and overall value.

Its likely competitors include the upcoming Motorola Signature 27 and Xiaomi 18 Pro, both of which have also been showcased or discussed in connection with India’s flagship smartphone market.

What buyers should watch for

The iQOO 16’s India launch confirmation establishes that the company plans to bring its latest flagship to the country, but several important details remain outstanding.

The official launch date, price, India-specific hardware configuration and software details will determine how the device compares with rival smartphones.

If the Indian version retains the China model’s 2K 165Hz AMOLED display, 8,400mAh battery, fast charging and triple 50-megapixel camera system, it could offer a compelling package for users seeking high performance and gaming features.

For now, the Snapdragon processor is the central selling point. The final assessment will depend on the price iQOO sets for India and whether the local variant retains the headline features of its Chinese counterpart.
