OpenAI is preparing to enter the job market with a new platform designed to connect employers with the right candidates using AI, the company announced. The service, called OpenAI Jobs Platform, is expected to launch by mid-2026, a spokesperson told TechCrunch.
Matching talent with opportunities
Fidji Simo, CEO of Applications at OpenAI, said in a blog post that the platform will “use AI to help find the perfect matches between what companies need and what workers can offer.” The service will also feature a separate track for small businesses and local government bodies looking to tap into AI talent.
Competition with LinkedIn
The move positions OpenAI in direct competition with LinkedIn, which has long dominated professional networking. Interestingly, LinkedIn co-founder Reid Hoffman was an early backer of OpenAI. The professional networking giant is also owned by Microsoft, OpenAI’s largest investor, meaning the platform will compete with a company closely tied to its biggest partner.
Beyond ChatGPT
OpenAI CEO Sam Altman confirmed that Simo will lead multiple applications beyond ChatGPT, including the jobs platform. Reports indicate the company is also exploring a web browser and a social networking app.
AI skills and certification initiative
Alongside the jobs platform, OpenAI is expanding its focus on AI skills for workers. Through OpenAI Academy, the company plans to offer certifications to measure levels of “AI fluency.” A pilot program is scheduled for late 2025, in collaboration with Walmart, with a long-term goal of certifying 10 million Americans by 2030.
These initiatives are part of OpenAI’s contribution to the White House AI literacy programme. Altman and other tech leaders are expected to meet President Donald Trump to discuss AI’s societal impact.
Addressing AI-driven job disruption
The launch comes amid growing concern over AI’s impact on employment. Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei has warned that up to 50% of entry-level white-collar jobs could be lost by 2030 due to AI. Simo acknowledged that disruption is unavoidable but emphasized OpenAI’s role in helping people adapt by learning AI skills and connecting them with employers.
