New Delhi: Xiaomi has expanded its Redmi Note 17 series in India with the launch of the Redmi Note 17 Pro and Redmi Note 17 Pro Max. While both smartphones share a similar design, display and rear-camera setup, they differ in processor, battery capacity, charging speeds, selfie camera and pricing.
The Redmi Note 17 Pro starts at ₹36,999, while the Redmi Note 17 Pro Max starts at ₹49,999. Both models are aimed at users looking for premium features without moving into the flagship smartphone segment.
Redmi Note 17 Pro vs Pro Max: Design and display
The Redmi Note 17 Pro and Pro Max follow a similar design language, featuring flat plastic frames, rounded edges and plastic rear panels. Both smartphones measure around 8.6mm in thickness.
For durability, the two models carry IP66, IP68, IP69 and IP69K ratings for protection against dust and water. There is a slight difference in the camera-module design. The Note 17 Pro features a raised pill-shaped element within its square camera module, while the Pro Max uses two separate camera cutouts.
Both smartphones feature a 6.83-inch 1.5K AMOLED display with a 120Hz refresh rate. The panels support 12-bit colour and can display up to 68.7 billion colours.
The displays offer up to 3,500 nits peak brightness and up to 2,000 nits in high-brightness mode. Both phones also get Corning Gorilla Glass Victus 2 protection.
Processor and performance
The biggest hardware difference between the two phones is the chipset.
The Redmi Note 17 Pro is powered by the Snapdragon 6s Gen 4, built using a 4nm process. It supports up to 8GB of RAM, with storage configurations using either UFS 3.1 or UFS 2.2 depending on the variant.
The Redmi Note 17 Pro Max, meanwhile, gets the newer Snapdragon 6 Gen 5 chipset. It can be configured with up to 12GB LPDDR5X RAM and 256GB UFS 4.1 storage.
This means the two phones are positioned differently in terms of performance and memory configuration, with the Pro Max offering higher-end hardware specifications.
Battery and charging
Battery capacity is another major difference between the Redmi Note 17 Pro and Pro Max.
The Redmi Note 17 Pro packs a 9,000mAh silicon-carbon battery and supports 67W wired charging. It also supports 22.5W wired reverse charging.
The Pro Max takes the battery capacity to 10,000mAh and supports considerably faster 100W charging. It also offers 27W wired reverse charging.
The larger battery and faster charging support make battery hardware one of the key areas where the two models differ.
Camera specifications
The rear-camera hardware is broadly similar on both smartphones.
Both the Redmi Note 17 Pro and Redmi Note 17 Pro Max feature a 50-megapixel primary camera with optical image stabilisation (OIS). The main sensor is paired with an 8-megapixel ultra-wide camera.
The more noticeable difference comes on the front. The Redmi Note 17 Pro gets a 16-megapixel selfie camera, while the Pro Max features a higher-resolution 32-megapixel front camera.
Both phones also offer AI-powered camera tools, including High Dynamic Portrait, Night Portrait and features designed to remove glare and reflections from images.
