The Media Watch Committee of Majlise Islah wa Tanzeem recently organized a one-day workshop on cybersecurity and cyber laws at Rabita Hall, Bhatkal. The event aimed to educate students, social media influencers, group administrators, and community leaders about online security and the digital landscape.
The workshop began with a session by Advocate BT Venkatesh, a prominent human rights defender and former public prosecutor of Karnataka. Venkatesh discussed the dual nature of social media—its capacity to connect and empower individuals, while also posing risks like misinformation, privacy breaches, and cyberbullying. He emphasized the importance of responsible usage and encouraged attendees to critically evaluate the content they engage with.
Following Venkatesh, Dr. Anant Prabhu, a leading cybersecurity expert, provided a detailed analysis of cyber threats and the legal measures in place to address them. Dr. Prabhu highlighted various cybercrimes, including phishing, identity theft, and hacking, and stressed the need for vigilance and proactive security measures. He advised using strong passwords, two-factor authentication, and staying informed about cybersecurity practices.
The event included interactive sessions where participants sought personalized advice on navigating digital challenges. The workshop was attended by notable community figures, including Majlise Islah wa Tanzeem President Inayathullah Shabandri and other prominent members, who contributed to the event’s success. Attendees left with valuable insights into protecting themselves online and using social media responsibly.
