Social media platforms X and Reddit faced widespread service disruptions on Sunday, with users across the United States and several other regions reporting problems accessing the platforms.

Outages flagged by Downdetector

According to outage-tracking website Downdetector, reports of issues with X began surfacing around 4.14 pm EST, while Reddit users started flagging problems slightly earlier, around 3.58 pm EST.

Thousands of users turned to Downdetector and other platforms to report difficulties, indicating a sharp spike in complaints within a short period.

Users report loading and login problems

Many users said they were unable to load their feeds, refresh pages, or post content on both mobile apps and desktop browsers. Others experienced slow performance, login failures and repeated error messages.

Reddit users, in particular, complained about problems viewing or uploading images and videos. Some said content appeared briefly before disappearing again.
“Images and videos are turning on and off,” one user wrote, while another said content was “hit and miss”.

On X, users expressed similar frustration. “Is X down or am I going insane?” one user posted, while another asked why reach and community features appeared to be unavailable.

No official explanation yet

As of Sunday evening, neither X nor Reddit had issued an official statement explaining the cause of the disruptions. It also remains unclear how long the outages would last or whether they were linked to server issues, technical glitches or maintenance-related problems.

Repeated disruptions raise concerns

The incident adds to a series of recent service interruptions across major digital platforms, raising questions about platform stability as millions increasingly rely on social media for communication, news and business outreach.

Users were advised to monitor official channels for updates while services gradually stabilise.
