A three-year-old child is receiving medical treatment at a private hospital in Udupi for suspected physical abuse. Udupi District Health Officer (DHO) Dr. A.P. Gadad stated that the child was initially brought to a hospital in Hebri on September 12 for “ill health.” After receiving first-aid, the child was referred to the Government Koosamma Shambhu Shetty Memorial Haji Abdullah Mother and Child Hospital in Udupi, where doctors classified it as a Medical Legal Case.

The District Child Protection Officer, Nagaratna Nayak, visited the hospital alongside the District Legal Services Authority. Doctors reported that the child had multiple bruises and injury marks, some of which were older, raising concerns of prolonged abuse. The child’s mother attributed the injuries to a fight with the sibling, but officials remain skeptical of her explanation.

A complaint has been filed at the Amasebailu Police Station. Officials plan to gather more information by speaking to the child in the coming days.
