Training for Women’s Asian Cup 2025 begins in Bangalore
Guided by Swedish tactician Joakim Alexandersson, the India U17 women’s squad has successfully completed its inaugural training camp of 2025 at The Sports School in Kanakapura, on the outskirts of Bengaluru. Over a span of one month, 32 young athletes honed their skills in preparation for the upcoming SAFF U17 Women’s Championship and AFC U17 Women’s Asian Cup Qualifiers, slated for September and October.
The selection process kicked off on January 10, drawing 46 hopefuls. Following a rigorous 10-day evaluation, 32 players were shortlisted for further assessment. Alexandersson, in collaboration with Indian assistant coaches, led the camp, which concluded on February 13. He lauded the team’s unity, determination, and eagerness to refine their tactical understanding of the game.
AIFF Secretary General Anilkumar P emphasized the camp’s role in strengthening the squad ahead of the final phase of preparations. Deputy Secretary General M Satyanarayan highlighted ongoing talent identification through the ASMITA U17 Football Leagues and confirmed plans for additional training sessions.
Meanwhile, the U20 women’s team is heading to Türkiye for the Pink Ladies Youth Cup, having trained at the same venue. The senior women’s national team has also begun preparations in Anantapur before flying to the UAE for high-intensity matchups.
With the AFC U23 Asian Cup Qualifiers approaching, AIFF is strategizing specialized camps for U23 male players, ensuring optimal conditioning for future international tournaments.
