Popular influencer Revant Himatsingka, also known as “Food Pharmer,” recently released a video about food on airplanes that has gone viral on the internet. Revant claims in an X post that he purchased every ready-to-eat meal option offered by IndiGo Airlines. He then analyzes how much sodium is in some of them. “Just because “Upma”, “Poha”, and “Dal chawal” sound healthy, does not mean they are healthy,” states a portion of the caption for the now-viral photo. Never forget that unhealthy food masquerading as junk food is even more harmful.”

“We already eat too much sodium in India. Eating excess sodium increases blood pressure, which can result in heart and kidney issues,” he points out. He recommends two options for those travelling by IndiGo. One should either bring food packed from home on flights or buy IndiGo’s “decent” nut case/almond box, he advises. Watch the complete video below:

So far, the post has garnered one million views. The airline company released a statement in response to the widely shared video, stating that it only sources fresh and pre-packaged food from well-known vendors. According to FSSAI regulations, every meal served on IndiGo flights has nutritional data and an ingredient list. Travelers can purchase pre-packaged food items on board or select from freshly prepared meals that have been reserved in advance. The preparation of some pre-packaged products is done as per traditional Indian recipes and the salt content is well within prescribed norms. The information printed on the package acts as an advisory for passengers to estimate their nutritional intake and consume as per their discretion. We welcome all feedback to improve our services in our mission to provide an affordable, on-time and hassle-free flying experience for our customers.”
